Hi friends and welcome to Delight n' the Light! I am so pumped to talk about faithful habits! I am going to be completely honest, I am the worst at building and setting goals. I have always set goals and I just absolutely never followed through. I want to talk about what habits are and why they are important! I also want to talk about the Biblical importance of habits and why the small things add up to the big things! If you made it this far I am so stinking glad! Let's dive on into today's blog!
Alright now the real question what on earth is a habit? According to Google, a habit is, "a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up." Wowza amazing! You have routines, and things you do that you don't even realize you've created as a habit. For me, a weird habit I have is I only eat one end of my fry and the fry has to be squishy! Please do not ask it's just been a habit of mine since I was little. Isn't that so cool? Now not every habit is good! So for instance a bad habit I have is I don't brush my teeth at night; ught I know the worst. Anyways, you get the picture. So with this, let's break down how habits can help us achieve God's will for our lives!
We all make goals, some may be along the lines of getting in physical shape, stopping a bad habit, getting up early in the morning and creating a Godly rythm, not eating out so much, drinking more water, whatever it is it's something God has placed on your heart! God has given you desires and goals! The way we should view goals is it's an opportunity to grow in our disciplines with God! Everyone has heard of SMART goals. We need to make achievable and attainable goals this is true. We need to go even smaller. What is your why behind the goal? Why do you want to get in shape or drink more water or even stop the bad habit? For example: I have a goal of creating a Godly rythm in the morning so I can feel closer and connected to God more throughout my day! If you can identify your why behind it and pray about it, I believe that you will have more success in reaching your goal! When we place God in the center of our why's God will bring it into fruition! Some examples of this in the Bible is I think of Jesus. He got up early every morning to find solitude with His father, He made that a daily discipline, a habit! Before Jesus saved mankind, He was faithful with the little habits saving and building relationships with the disciples He had and the miracles He was doing! When we are faithful with the little thing with God, God will give you a little more and a little more. We have to prioritize God in our goals more than the actual goals themselves otherwise it's wishful thinking! A habit creates a discipline!
What if it doesn't come into fruition and I fall off? Pick up where you left off and continue seeking God first in the goals you would like to achieve! I promise God wants you to enjoy the fruit of it all! Pray and seek God's will and desires for you life and do it with Him! Jesus was a carpenter before He saved us all! Start where you are at, you don't have to start when you get this or that, start where you're at and with what you have! Luke 6:10 says, "When we are faithful with litle, we will be faithful with much! But if you are dishonest in little things, you won't be honest with greater responsibilties." Yeesh! The small things have the biggest impact!
Here are some things that can help in preparing a year full of faithful habits with Jesus! The first would be to examine last years habits, what worked, what didn't work and invite Jesus into that time of reflection! The second thing is really ask yourself the why behind your goals and what habits you would like to invite Jesus into to help with reaching your goals! The last thing is starting the smallest habits! It could be only working out 10 minutes a day, reading one verse a day, praying for 5 minutes, getting up on the second alarm, drink a bottle of water a day! Those are so big and God will multiply it! Enjoy this new year and be present with Him! Enjoy doing those passions with God! It will continue to motivate you to keep going! You got this! <3
